EST-Floattech has delivered the battery solution for two Hybrid Patrol vessels, thanks to an order from Holland Ship Electric.

These aluminium Hybrid Patrol Vessels, named “POA1” and “POA2”, are to be used for water patrol. With this initiative, the Port of Antwerp shows its drive to become a sustainable port. Each of the vessels will be equipped with a battery package of 273 kWh, enabling them to sail for 2.5 hours at 9 km/h exclusively on electric power. The battery packages are DNV-approved and have successfully passed the FAT (factory acceptance test) at our former factory in Hoofddorp (EST-Floattech’s production facilities are currently located in Badhoevedorp). The tests were supervised by Kooiman Marine Group and Holland Ship Electric, the system integrator.

About the vessels

The vessels have a length of 25 meters, a beam of 5,4 meters, and a draught of 1,36 meters. They are built by Kooiman Marine Group.

The vessels also have two other power modes: full diesel propulsion or hybrid propulsion. A unique system that results in lower fuel consumption and minimal CO2 emissions. The diesel particulate filter and integrated exhaust gas treatment system also ensure that fewer harmful substances (SOx / NOx) are released.

The vessels, developed by Kooiman Engineering in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, have been built at Scheepswerf Gebr. Kooiman, also in Zwijndrecht.

EST-Floattech is very honoured to be a part of this project and to contribute yet again to a sustainable energy storage solution in the maritime industry. We thank Holland Ship Electric for their trust in EST-Floattech as their ESS supplier.

Successful sea trial of Patrol vessel “POA 1”

The battery-hybrid patrol vessel “POA1 proved to sail successfully. The vessel is equipped with a battery pack, which can be used exclusively electrically at 9 km/h for 2.5 hours. In addition, the vessel has two other energy modes: diesel or hybrid. A unique system that ensures less fuel consumption and minimal CO2 emissions. With the construction of these ships, the Port of Antwerp is reshaping its harbor with sustainability and safety ambitions.

Both vessels have been officially commissioned on Wednesday the 21st of December 2022

The “POA 1” and “POA 2” are the first to patrol vessels for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and will be used for surveillance and for enforcement in the port area. The vessels are part of the Authority Field Operations.
